Thank you for your interest in WeForest and for considering joining our Board of Trustees.
We founded WeForest back in 2009 with a very clear ambition: to stop global warming in our lifetime so our children don’t have to.
Since then, we have garnered enormous support from a manifold variety of sources to contribute to the cause, not the least of this support has been from our dynamic Board of Trustees.
Our purpose is Making Earth Cooler.
You have probably read about the recent IPCC report (AR, Aug 9, 2021), also known as “code red for Humanity”: the world needs to cut global emissions in half by 2030 and reach net zero by the middle of this century.
Worth mentioning that for the first time, forests are clearly listed as a solution: “burying any remaining releases using carbon capture and storage or absorbing them by planting trees”.
In 2019, our partner the Crowther lab calculated the need to restore 1 million ha of forests, (an area of the size of the USA) to store about two thirds of the carbon released into the atmosphere as a result of human activity since the Industrial Revolution.
We like to keep things simple and efficient.
WeForest has had a steep growth curve over the last 10 years and constantly focuses on keeping the difficult balance between for example professionalism and simplicity, or whether we should be leading a project or rather join forces with others, more anchored in specific geographies. Our philosophy is to avoid reinventing the wheel and collaborate for the biggest impact.
Our 50 colleagues are passionate about our mission and have developed strong bonds together despite a culture of limited travel (for cost and carbon footprint) that we have always tried to apply, exacerbated now by the covid crisis.
Our Board is compact and potent and will remain so, we have found that that a team of 6 or 7 is optimum. Our communication is fluid and we are agile as a result.
As a member of the Board of Trustees, you will not be expected to regularly travel, and some travel is possible. For instance to visit a project on the ground or to participate in a face to face workshop. You will work mainly with the CEO and other Trustees. The executive team will also provide their expertise.
We are looking for Trustees who share our values and are excited to grow our committed, passionate and diverse team with a talent pool from different countries and cultures all of whom have excellence and success as a common thread.
