Role Backgrounds

Director of Intelligence

The organisational structure of the Home Office is changing, with the launch of a major transformation programme ‘One Home Office’ which considers our values, our culture and our organisation.

The Borders and Enforcement capability will deliver services to the central STARS function, all three missions, as well as to customers and users of our services. This includes responsibility for the delivery of frontline activity – inland enforcement (including criminal investigation) and at the border – and activity to return immigration and foreign national offenders. It will work collaboratively with the Migration and Borders mission, that will set key outcomes from policy development through to operational delivery.

The Migration and Borders Group

The Migration and Borders Group in the Home Office guides the UK’s immigration, borders and citizenship system, to ensure it is run in a coherent, end-to-end manner, and is providing great customer service. It works collaboratively with the Home Office Capabilities, notably Borders and Enforcement and Customer Service who deliver the front-line services.

The Migration and Borders Group sets the policy and legal framework, owns and coordinate strategies, sets and monitors standards for customer service and decision quality, develops the balanced scorecard and system-level risk register, ensures excellent knowledge management and insight, works on end-to-end design of customer routes and control strategies, provides thought-leadership, and manages international negotiations, all through four directorates:

  • Borders, Visitors, and International Migration
  • Migration and Citizenship
  • Asylum, Enforcement and Protection
  • Strategy and Systems Leadership

The Migration and Borders Group also leads the flagship transformation programmes of the New Plan for Immigration: the Future Borders and Immigration System, and Sovereign Borders.
