Trustee Role Profile

The role of all Trustees:

  • Contribute actively to the Board’s role in setting overall strategy, defining corporate goals and targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • Exercise trusteeship of the values of change grow live
  • Appoint the Chief Executive and members of the Executive Leadership Team and support them to deliver the charity’s strategy
  • Think widely and achieve good balance between collaboration and challenge
  • Ensure that change grow live complies with its Articles of Association, Charity law, Company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations, and pursues the charitable objects as defined in the Articles and in accordance with accepted standards of best practice and propriety
  • Comply with the Charity Commission’s Governance Code
  • Ensure that there is a defined and agreed mission, to which all change grow live’s volunteers and staff can work
  • Ensure change grow live uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.
  • Approve the budget and accounts and ensure the financial stability of change grow live
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of all governance matters
  • Act as a faithful advocate and representative of change grow live at all times

Person Specification

The Board is already reasonably diverse in terms of gender and sexuality. But as we recruit individuals whose values and ambition match those of the organisation and the current Board, we now want also to include an “Expert by Experience” dimension with a lived understanding of the issues tackled by change grow live, likely from a different age bracket to existing Trustees.

All Trustees:

  • Demonstrable ability to building and sustain relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues from diverse backgrounds to achieve objectives
  • Demonstrable sound judgement and effective decision making
  • Demonstrable understanding of systemic inequality and personal commitment to challenge it in all its forms
  • Independence of mind: a willingness to speak your mind confidently yet sensitively
  • Willingness to be available to staff for advice and enquiries on an adhoc basis
  • Good, independent judgement, including the political dimension, and strategic vision
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship
  • An ability to work effectively as member of a team
  • Enthusiasm, energy and time to commit to this role including the commitment and capacity to make regular visit to services
  • An understanding of the issues facing volunteers and of how to motivate and enthuse them
  • The ability to understand the respective roles of the Chair, Trustees and Chief Executive
  • Successful experience of operating within a Board in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation, or the capacity to do so
  • The highest ethical standards of integrity and probity
  • Coverage of the key skill areas identified
