Role Description

We are looking to recruit our Chief Executive Officer to work closely with our Trustees and Executive Directors in order to shape and implement the aims and ambitions of Carers Trust. We are seeking a dynamic and inspirational leader to help us better equip Carers Trust for tomorrow’s challenges and realise Carers Trust’s mission and vision to make a significant difference to the lives of unpaid carers across the UK. We are seeking an experienced senior leader with proven strategic vision, commercial acumen, and a track record of achievement at CEO/COO or similar level with experience in the not for profit, public or private sector.

Location: London based with the option of some home working, with regular travel across the UK and the occasional weekend as and when required

Contract: Permanent
Annual leave: Your annual leave entitlement will be 26 days (free days) and 3.5 office closure days plus 8 bank holidays
Pension: After probationary period of 6 months a matched employer contribution up to maximum of 5% of salary

Leadership

  • Work with the Board and key stakeholders to develop and implement the strategic vision of Carers Trust.
  • Be a visible ambassador across all stakeholder groups, upholding our values, championing carers and have a strong presence across the Carers Trust network and the wider health and social care sector.
  • Provide a clear vision to staff, partners and all stakeholders on the organisation’s aims and strategic objectives.
  • Support and motivate our people and secure their understanding and commitment to the organisation’s aims and objectives ensuring a collective approach.
  • Demonstrate inspiring and effective leadership and develop a values driven culture based on professionalism, inclusion, support, and teamwork.
  • Positively engage with and influence key stakeholders including government, partners, media and the business community.
  • To act as the link between the Board and the Senior Management Team and our people, ensuring the development of positive relationships, mutual respect and support.
  • Provide visible and empowering leadership, nurturing an inclusive and values-driven service wide culture in which equity, diversity and inclusion plays a central role.

Strategy and Business Planning

  • To work with the Board to develop the organisation’s strategy and to lead on and be responsible for the communication and implementation of it to our people and stakeholders.
  • To be aware of and alert to changes in the external landscape which could affect the delivery or direction of the organisation’s strategy and with the support of the Board take appropriate action to address them.
  • To seek out, identify and develop opportunities which ensure that Carers Trust can strengthen its position as the lead organisation for unpaid Carers.
  • Develop the organisation’s business plans and budgets with smart success measures ensuring regular reports on progress are provided to the Board.

Governance

  • Alongside the Board and Executive Directors, develop and deliver a culture of good governance, building rapport and trust with the Chair and Board to effectively deliver the organisation’s objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Board ensure that all governance structures, policies and procedures are appropriate and effective, ensuring that remedial measures and changes are implemented as required.
  • Maintain, review and develop as necessary the organisations Risk Register, ensuring that all operations, policies and procedures and activities meet the requirements of the Charity Commission and all relevant legislation.
  • To support the Board to carry out its function, including provision of appropriate information and support via regular communication with the Chair, attending quarterly Board meetings and subcommittee meetings and preparing Board papers as required.

Partnership and Business Development

  • To work with and alongside Carers Trust Network Partners to support and develop the network, ensuring long term, future proofed, sustainable support for carers across the UK.
  • To foster positive and constructive relationships with Network Partners to ensure mutual aims and objectives are met.
  • To regularly assess the needs of the network in the context of the external landscape and recommend action where required.
  • To identify and develop effective partnerships with other organisations, including third sector, commercial and government, to further support the mission and vision of Carer’s Trust.
  • To build and strengthen working relationships with national and local government to raise the profile of unpaid carers and influence policy.

Finance and Operational Management

  • Ensure the correct systems and controls are in place to maintain the organisation’s sound financial footing.
  • In conjunction with the Board and Executive Directors set targets for fundraising of both restricted and unrestricted funds, monitor performance against targets and ensure action is taken where required to meet or exceed targets.
  • To ensure that all areas have the right resources, structure, people, skills, systems and policies to deliver the business plan and strategic objectives.
  • To ensure that the organisation attains and maintains a recognised quality standard.
  • To ensure there is regular and effective appraisal of all staff and that training and development needs are identified and addressed.
