Essential skills and experience required:

  • Recognised for outstanding artistic vision and an ability to articulate this clearly and compellingly.
  • Broad experience of creative leadership, preferably across multi-disciplinary art forms.
  • Evidence of developing and successfully delivering bold, innovative, high-profile ideas.
  • Commercial and financial acumen and demonstrable experience of managing complex budgets and partnership development.
  • Ability to deliver high volumes of activity, often within tight timeframes.
  • Evidence of strategic planning within a complex organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills, media experience and evidence of operating in a public-facing role.
  • Demonstrable influencing and negotiating skills.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a passion for, and affinity with, Southbank Centre’s brand, values and ambition.
  • Has a clear vision for Southbank Centre’s place on the national and international cultural stage, in a post-pandemic world.
  • Has demonstrable experience of managing large venues or creative spaces and of finding the right ideas to attract sizeable audiences for live events.
  • Understands the need for balance between artistic and commercial events.
  • Has experience in partnership building skills.
  • Has experience of managing large-scale creative learning projects and a clear vision for the role creative learning can play alongside an artistic programme.
  • Values the public’s role in informing programmes that reflect the demographics of our communities, locally and nationally.
  • Has experience of working with a Board of Trustees as well as a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Can inspire, attract, manage and retain creative talent.
  • Has demonstrable experience of large-scale collaboration.
  • Has a good working knowledge of digital media and can work comfortably in a hybrid digital and live event world.
