Technical requirements/experience/qualifications

  • A strong background in policy development and/or project and programme delivery, including experience of the environment and energy sectors. Highly relevant experience drawn from other sectors will also be taken into account.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing diverse teams including through periods of change and uncertainty.  A track record of promoting staff development and engagement, actively championing equality, diversity and inclusion, and driving continuous improvement in team performance.
  • Excellent relationship management and systems leadership skills, including experience providing professional advice on environment issues at the most senior levels, of working in high-profile and politically sensitive environment, of building individual relationships of trust and confidence with senior stakeholders (up to CEO/Board level), and of developing effective and influential broader networks with.
  • Sound understanding of and experience of programme and financial management across multi disciplinary functions, including performance reporting, budget formulation, financial monitoring and demonstrable evidence of corporate management of resources to achieve best value for money.
  • First-rate analytical and communication skills, both written and oral. Able to provide rigorous and coherent advice on policy interventions, and to present strategies and plans compellingly to a wide range of audiences.
