About Us

Brent is a borough characterised by change. It is a place where new communities have always settled, regularly adding to its distinctive diversity, and this continues today. Brent is one of the most culturally diverse areas in England. The dynamic mix of communities continues to enrich and inform the social, economic and cultural make-up of the borough.

Regeneration is also changing the face of the borough, in Wembley, South Kilburn, Alperton, Harlesden, Church End, and elsewhere. And we are growing – around 335,000 residents today, projected to increase to almost 350,000 by 2023, and over 375,000 by 2030.

From the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, to the iconic Wembley Stadium arch, Brent is filled with multi-cultural landmarks.

Wembley Arena has hosted some of the biggest names in music and sport, and the Kiln Theatre is a great place to see shows before they hit the West End. The Library at Willesden Green and Civic Centre in Wembley are leading examples of modern community hubs.

We are a young Borough. There are 77,687 under 18s in Brent, representing 23% of the Brent population and we are committed to giving every young person in Brent the best start in life.

The total school population has stayed stable over the last three years. The number of children and young people of statutory school age is 48,188. There has though been a change in demographics affecting the primary and secondary phases differently. Over the last three years the number of primary age pupils has fallen by 2.6 per cent, whereas at secondary there has been an increase of 5.2 per cent. The school population is richly diverse. 165 languages are spoken in Brent schools, and a very high proportion of pupils have English as an Additional Language (65 per cent).  A large proportion (19%) of under 16s were born outside the United Kingdom.
