Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the CEO role at 38 Degrees.

When 38 Degrees burst onto the scene just over twelve years ago, we changed the model of campaigning in the UK. With an ambition to build a movement of people pushing for progressive change, we have done just that.

38 Degrees today is made up of more than 2 million people united by a shared set of values. We come from all walks of life across the UK and inevitably have different experiences and opinions. But we share a passion for making change. When we come together, we really get things done.

Everything we do is driven by our members. We are passionate about empowering people to have a voice and influence the most important issues facing the UK today. Every single day 38 Degrees supporters up and down the country are launching and running campaigns on our website, not just to make the UK a better place, but to have a real impact where they live too. From protecting local green spaces to supporting local services we regularly help members of the public win campaigns on the local issues that matter most to them.

And yet, as we mark our twelfth birthday, we recognise that both the world around us and also the nature of campaigning is rapidly changing too. To maintain our influence and disruptive ‘edge’, we know that we have to evolve.

Over the last year we have invested substantially in a strategic review process, deepening our understanding of our audience, of how social change is happening, and of our impact in order to inform fresh thinking. Our guiding question is how we can leverage the extraordinary asset of our community and their passion to make the biggest possible difference.

We know our future will look different to our past. We have a sense of what that might be but are looking for an exceptional CEO who can bring a superlative strategic nose to confirm that path and lead our future journey.

We are looking for someone who combines passion to make the world a better place with a proven track record of making change happen. Our new CEO will have strong management capabilities and be able to create a positive, sustainable and transparent organisational model and culture. The emotional intelligence to connect with and inspire others will be important, as will the ability to hold your own with our most senior stakeholders and the media. Resilience and the ability to maximise opportunities for an innovative and agile organisation are also key.

Most of all, you will understand what it means to be a genuinely member-powered organisation with a deep commitment to building the power of those who make 38 Degrees possible.

This is an opportunity to build on what we have already achieved, and to shape our future at an exciting stage of our development, working collaboratively with a highly motivated and engaged team who are committed to responding to the issues our members care about. If you share our commitment to progressive change and believe you have the skills, experience and qualities we are looking for, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Sue Tibballs OBE
